Mr. Devon Mize
This is my 4th year in PISD and my 16th year in public education. 8 of those years were in the high school setting and the other 7 were in the middle school. I will be working on both middle school campuses this year teaching Principles of Applied Engineering and Principles of Biosciences.
I was born and raised in North Texas, graduating from Howe High School (Howe, TX) and Austin College (Sherman, TX). My wife, Nikki, was born in Pennsylvania but moved to Texas when she was 2 years old. We have a son, Grayson, who will enter Kindergarten this year and a 2 year old daughter, Chloe, who loves to (attempt to) do everything on her own.
I have a few passions and a few hobbies. My passions in education lie within content and curriculum. I truly feel that every child can learn any material that is taught at a high, rigorous level. The part of teaching that makes a difference can lie in the style of teaching and the content that is being taught. I have noticed that the way I was taught (many years ago) was not ideal for all students. I hope to push students beyond their comfort level and teach problem-solving strategies so that students will be content with discomfort and confident to overcome the struggles.
My hobbies include jumping on the trampoline, shooting off rockets, flying kites, exploring anatomy of bugs, spiders, snakes and trains. Basically, whatever my kids are into, so am I. If they're not around, I'm probably on my kayak on a small lake in East Texas attempting to catch that ever elusive 10 pound largemouth bass.
