Mrs. Kim Smith

I knew I wanted to be a teacher at the ripe old age of six, and it was all because of my second grade teacher, Mrs. Engleking. While I don’t remember many specifics about her lessons, I do remember how much I loved her and being in her class. She did, after all, have the coolest reading nook on the planet. It was an antique clawfoot tub that was lined with orange shag carpet, and earning a turn to crawl in and read a book was one of life’s greatest pleasures! But reading tubs aside, what made Mrs. Engleking so special to me is that I knew with 100% certainty that I was special to her. She truly cared about me, and it showed in everything she did. I still carry that feeling of knowing that I mattered to her tucked away in my heart all these years later and that, above all else, is how I want my students to feel, too. I want them to know with 100% certainty that they are special to me, because they are. Each and every one of them.

I am so blessed to work in a district and on a campus that truly puts children first. I see this philosophy in action on a daily basis, from the top down and everywhere in between. We are a community in every sense of the word, and I am thankful that my husband and I, along with our two daughters and two dogs, have been able to be a part of it for the last 8 years.

I am looking forward to another fantastic year at Reynolds Middle School!

With Eagle Pride,

Mrs. Smith
