Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Kendra Houston
I am your school counselor Kendra Houston, and I am over the moon to be serving you again at Hughes Elementary School. My family and I have loved living in the Prosper area for the past year after moving from oil country, Midland, TX. We were so right to be excited to be apart of this well-loved community. My son and I have loved fishing, riding bikes, being apart of community baseball, finding our Camp Gladiator family, and of course the staycations!
My background in education includes a year as a paraprofessional for a high school life-skills classroom, two years as a 2nd grade self-contained teacher, one year as a 4th grade ELAR and Social Studies teacher, one year as a school counselor at the Young Women's Leadership Academy through the Young Women's Preperatory Network out of Dallas, TX, and of course my last year as Hughes Elementary school counselor. I received my BA from the University of Texas Permian Basin and my MA in School Guidance Counseling at Angelo State University. Because of my love and passion for counseling, I will forever be continuing my education, so I am happy to receive any resources you may want to share!
Since 2012, I served as a mentor at the youth detention center in Midland, TX which is where I found my passion for mental health and a recognition for the dire need children had to establish a sense of community, purpose, and value. My commitment to the Hughes family of students, staff, and parents will be to help every person I meet recognize their value, see a purpose for their futures, and empower them to be the best versions of themselves. This year we look forward to growing leaders here at Hughes in not only our staff but also our students, as well as expanding our social skills abilities and emotional regulation.
My door is always open, I am here to serve you. Thank you for being apart of establishing such a wonderful place for all of our families to learn, flourish, and PROSPER!
