Seth Phillips, J.D.

Prior to becoming the Director of Forensics for Prosper High School, Mr. Phillips coached as Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas and The Woodlands College Park High School in The Woodlands, TX. His students have earned such honors as placing fifth in the nation in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, medaling at nationals in International Extemp and Congressional, Lincoln-Douglas, and Policy Debate, and winning state championships/medals in Extemporaneous Speaking, Lincoln-Douglass, and Policy debate.

As an adjunct professor for Collin College in the Speech Department, Mr. Phillips teaches courses such as Introduction to Public Speaking (SPCH 3111) and Business and Professional Speaking (SPCH 1321). He has previously taught at Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. In addition to the basic introductory speech courses, Mr. Phillips has also co-taught courses in Political Campaign Communication and Rhetoric of Western Thought.

Mr. Phillips is an attorney admitted to practice law by the State Bar of Texas. Prior to joining Prosper ISD, he served as an attorney investigator for the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights (OCR). At OCR, Mr. Phillips enforced civil rights laws regarding race, gender, disability, and age discrimination as they relate to K-12 and higher education institutions in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Prior to OCR, Mr. Phillips applied his legal education and background in communication as Director of Investor Relations for the Dallas-based private equity firm Five States Energy Company, L.L.C. and Chief Compliance Officer for the affiliated financial advisory firm Budge Financial, Inc. He also served as Director of Information Technology for the affiliated Greenville Securities, LLC and held a FINRA Series 99 securities license. 

In his free time, Mr. Phillips is highly involved in public service and efforts to advance public policy. He has worked in Washington, DC as an intern for Congress with the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom and as a law fellow for Human Rights Campaign. He has also participated in or coordinated lobbying trips to Congress and the Texas Legislature.
