Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Jimmy Varnell
Hello and welcome! My name is J.J. Varnell, and this is my second year teaching 8th Grade ELAR at Reynolds. I have a great passion for literature and writing, and my philosophy is that it doesn't matter what you read, watch, or listen to; it's how you process and think about those things that truly counts. Your student will actively apply this philosophy as we explore many fiction and non-fiction texts and other types of media this year, making connections and expressing their thoughts through the written word, discussion, and other forms of communication.
No matter where I am teaching, my mission remains the same: I will do my part to help prepare your student for both their relatively short-term goals of high school and college, and for the longer lasting goal of becoming their future selves, the people who will take on the roles of parents, teachers, leaders, and pillars of their community. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to contribute my small part in helping your student realize their potential, self-worth, and, eventually, their place in an increasingly complex adult world.
My tutoring times are Wednesday afternoon 3:30-4:00 and Thursday morning 7:40-8:05.
Thank you and please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or if you simply want to talk about Shakespeare for a bit.
