Mrs. Christie Arnold
I am so excited to be joining the Reynolds family. I will be teaching 7th grade Texas History. I am really looking forward to building strong relationships with our kiddos; it's my favorite aspect of teaching. I want them to feel a true sense of connection with me and our class.
I feel strongly that my job is to help ensure that our students are informed, engaged, and productive citizens of the world. I think that as a history teacher we are teaching students to ask themselves what their place in the bigger picture is. I want them to know that every story that they hear comes from a certain point of view, and we always need to remember who is speaking, why they are speaking, and especially, which voices go unheard and why. My goal is to pique student interest enough that they go seeking the answers to their questions and not settle for the answers that are given to them. When they have the answers they seek, they use that knowledge go out and make positive impacts on the world.
Something that I'd like to share about myself is that I LOVE to read!! One of my goals throughout my life has been to build other lifelong readers, and I am blessed to work on a platform that allows me to do so. In my opinion History and Reading go hand in hand because history is knowledge passed through narratives. I would like to share a quote from Donalyn Miller’s, The Book Whisperer, which speaks to my personal beliefs about reading. “Reading changes your life. Reading unlocks worlds unknown or forgotten, taking travelers around the world and through time. Reading helps escape the confines of school and pursue your own education. Through characters—the saints and the sinners, real or imagined—reading shows you how to be a better human being.” I find joy in building a community of readers. I love to talk about books, share my adventures in reading, and look forward to helping students make connections between History and Reading.
I live in Frisco with my husband, Dustin, and my two phenomenal kids. My son, Jackson, will be in 10th grade this year and my daughter Shelby is studying Education at The University of Oklahoma. Our household would not be complete without our two furry kids; Howie, our long-haired Dachshund and Ellie May, a rescued Catahoula Leopard Dog. We are an active bunch and love to spend our down time traveling and hanging out together.
Please feel free to contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will be a traveling teacher and sharing classrooms, so email is the best way to reach me. My contact number will be the main number for Reynolds Middle School 469-219-2165. I will always get back with you as soon as possible.
I am looking forward to a great year! I cannot wait to take many adventures with you this year.
