Mrs. Tanya Barrios

This is my 16th year teaching in Prosper ISD, and I am thrilled to be here!  I began my teaching career 21 years ago in Florida, where I was an elementary school teacher for five years in a classroom for students with autism.  Prior to that I worked as a Music Therapist in a behavioral health center in a hospital. I have taught in the Life Skills classroom at the middle school and high school levels in PISD for 13 years. This will be my second year as a teacher in the Prepare 2 Prosper program.  I hold degrees of Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from the University of Miami,  a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University, and board certification in Music Therapy from the Certification Board for Music Therapists.  My main focus when working with my students is to teach them the skills they will need to be as successful and independent as possible in order to live life to the fullest.  When I'm not in the classroom, I spend time with my husband and two sons, compete in taekwondo tournaments, and perform with the McKinney Community Band where I play French horn.  I love to travel and cruising is my absolute favorite type of travel.
