Welcome to Art!! My name is Ryan Leavitt and this will be my 16th year teaching Elementary Art. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and earned a Master of Arts in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix.
My lovely wife Lori is also an educator and we are proud parents of three girls that currently attend Prosper ISD schools.
One of the joys I have of teaching art is helping students understand that art is about showing people the way YOU see things. Also, ideas come from the inside and outside as we make connections to what we love, know and to the world around us. It's imperative that the way art is taught honors each child's need and desire to be creative.
Elementary Artists analyze and create works of Art with a primary focus on the Elements and Principles of Design and age apropriate building techniques. Elementary Art provides a foundation in Fine Arts, Design and Engineering and is vertically aligned with these programs at the Secondary Level. We love using the discipline based art approach, 5e lesson model, 21st century learning skills and authentic cross curricular integration. Honoring the creative process, learning at higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy, and learning artistic behavior is how we create art at Cockrell Elementary!!
I'm looking forward to another fantastic year teaching our AMAZING ARTISTS at Cynthia A. Cockrell Elementary School.
