Degrees and Certifications:
B.A. Mathematics from Austin College (2002) Mathematics Certification (8-12) ESL Certification
Mr. Devon Mize
This is my 5th year in PISD and my 17th year in public education. 8 of those years were in the high school setting and the other 8 were in the middle school. This year I will be teaching Principals of Applied Engineering to 8th graders and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) to 6th grade students.
I was born and raised in North Texas, graduating from Howe High School (Howe, TX) and then Austin College (Sherman, TX). I have been married to my wife, Nikki, for just over 14 years. We have a son, Grayson, who will enter 1st grade this year and a 3 year old daughter, Chloe, who loves to (attempt to) do everything on her own.
I have a few passions and a few hobbies. My passions in education lie within content and curriculum. I truly feel that every child can learn any material that is taught at a high, rigorous level. I am a former math teacher and have not bought into the myth that "some people are just good at math". I hope to push students beyond their comfort level and teach problem-solving strategies so that students will be content with discomfort and confident to overcome the challenges. My desire for engineering students is to be comfortable with taking risks and to know that failures are part of the engineering design process. When this concept is understood, ceilings break and students soar.
My hobbies include jumping on the trampoline, shooting off rockets, flying kites, exploring anatomy of bugs, spiders, snakes and trains. Basically, whatever my kids are into, so am I. I like to fish, play golf and camp, so you'll find our family on a lake somewhere in Texas or Oklahoma on many weekends.
My Conference Times:

8th Period: 2:40 - 3:15
