Mrs. Christina Friar

Hey Rock Hill Family!! I am thrilled to be a Blue Hawk and join Rock Hill with a Masters in Educational Administration after serving 10 years in education and 12 years in coaching. I have a passion for empowering young people to get after their dreams and can’t wait to bring that spirit to Rock Hill!

In the Classroom:

This year, I will be an English III and English II Honors teacher. I joined Prosper ISD in 2019 where I enjoyed working with Stuber and Windsong Elementary teachers as an Instructional Technology Coach. Before coming to Prosper, I spent 9 years leading, teaching, and coaching in McKinney ISD and Richardson ISD.  At McKinney North, I had the honor of serving as team lead for my PreAP and English 2 team. Together and while utilizing the Readers Writers Workshop model, we helped our students develop a lifelong love of reading while also making significant strides in state and national testing scores. At McKinney Boyd, I had the amazing opportunity of working in our Design Center as an English Design Coach, District Curriculum English 2 Team member, team lead, and teacher. My favorite experiences as a teacher-learner were training with Apple Education leaders at the Apple headquarters in Cupertino, learning the foundations of classroom engagement and designing for our “Who” at the Schlechty Design Center, and the many times I had the opportunity to learn from my fellow educators as well as present at TCEA and MISD PD conferences. My goal as a teacher is to develop critical readers and confident writers who feel they have the tools to pursue their own goals and dreams!

On the Court:

I am beyond excited to serve as an assistant volleyball and track coach in the inaugural season for the Blue Hawks! Previously, I was the Head Volleyball Coach at McKinney North, building a positive culture and taking them to their first playoff appearance after a 5-year drought. Prior to North, I was an assistant volleyball coach at McKinney Boyd, helping the Lady Broncs earn a playoff bid every year and a State appearance in 2012.  Throughout this time I have also coached club for Skyline Volleyball Club, PSA-McKinney Summer Camps, and I’m currently a coach at Arete Athletics. Prior to entering education, I coached at the collegiate level as an assistant for UT-Arlington Volleyball, helping with recruiting and player development. As a volleyball player, I have a USAV Junior Olympic 18-Open Gold Medal, playing with Front Range Volleyball Club for 10 years. I earned Rocky Mountain Region All-Star team honors for the 10 years I played and also helped my team earn a bid to USAV Nationals every year. In high school, I was All-State my senior year and district MVP my junior year, earning a volleyball scholarship to captain my team at both Boise State and Texas State. At Boise State, I earned the SID's All-Conference Team honors, and at Texas State, I helped our team win a Southland Conference Championship. My most valuable honor in all my years playing volleyball is earning the Front Range Volleyball Club Commitment to Excellence award. More than anything, sports have taught me that we "are what you repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." I thank athletics for instilling those values in me; my goal in coaching is to help my student-athletes pursue their own passions and achieve their goals through a commitment to excellence!

At Home:

In my free time, you can find me cheering on my husband, who is the Head Basketball Coach at Frisco Liberty, and dancing around with my 4 children who are also future Blue Hawks!! I'm entering year two of being a dog-mom to our German Shepherd puppy named, Simba. As a result of the pandemic, I have also picked up gardening and making things with my Cricut! I have a family full of educators who teach and coach in Frisco, McKinney, and Melissa. Together, we all love to serve our community with passion and joy!
