Mrs. Michelle Barker
Hello! My name is Michelle Barker and I am so excited for my second year here in the Hughes Elementary! I taught at a private preschool for three years before joining the amazing ECSE preschool team here last year. I am so eager to begin my first year teaching first grade!! I finished my Bachelors of Science in Integrative Studies at The University of North Texas but completed the bulk of it at Texas A&M University. (Gig'em Aggies!) I completed my alternative certifiction through the Texas Teachers of Tomorrow program last year, specializing in general early childhood through 6th and special education.
Even though we're a house divided when college football comes around, my husband Eric (a UT Longhorn) and I have been married 13 years. Together we have two boys, Chase (13) and Cody (10) and one daughter, Katie (8). We also have a 2 year old golden retriever mix, Duke. We are a super active family that spends most of our time at sporting events, and depending on the season you will find us at a baseball, softball, football or basketball game most evenings. It's a whirlwind but we love it.
I am definitely a foodie who loves to cook, bake and try new foods! And when I am not running kids to practices or games I enjoy working in my herb/vegetable garden or getting lost in a good book.
I am really looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year. I believe that children learn best when they are excited about learning and get the opportunity to engage hands on. We may get messy! And I firmly believe in finding the right teaching style so that every child can learn. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me at any time.
