Mrs. Nancy Allen
Hello! I am a graduate of the UNT School of Music in Denton, Tx. I have been teaching in the elementary music classroom since 1989 and I love it! I am certified in 4 levels of Kodaly and 3 levels of Orff. Music is important because it allows students to use their minds in a creative way that they don't always get to do in the academic classroom. In music, children move their bodies through dance and singing games. Children express themselves by playing instruments and singing! They learn to read and interpret symbols - a whole other language! It is my intention to help children to find joy through music.
Zoltan Kodaly said, "Teach music and singing at school in such a way that it is not a torture, but a joy for the pupil; instill a thirst for finer music in him, a thirst which will last for a lifetime ("Kodaly, The Educator," 2012)".
I feel like I've done my job when students can successfully read, sing, write, or play music! I love to see my students continue in music through middle school and high school. It is my wish that I "instill a thirst for finer music in children" and, like Carl Orff said, help them "become confident, life-long musicians and creative problem solvers ("A Teaching Model," 2013)."
