Hello! My name is Mr. Farra and I'm excited to begin my 9th year teaching in Prosper at Rogers Middle School. Over the previous seven years, I've had several roles as a Technology Applications teacher. In 2006, I graduated from the University of North Texas where I majored in History and Philosophy with a minor in Secondary Education. In 2009, I received my Master of Science degree in Instructional Media Design and Technology from a private technology art school in Florida named Full Sail University. I wrote my graduate thesis about using e-portfolios with all learners and published my summative media project as a created website displaying my research, process of inquiry, defense of my findings, and recommendations for action that were outlined in my thesis. Before coming to Prosper, I taught Pre-AP Social Studies and coached in Coppell, TX.
My family moved from Denton to Prosper in 2013. My wife is the ESL Specialist at Hughes Elementary in Prosper ISD. My wife and I have two young boys who are both in the Dual-Language program at Rucker Elementary. Our oldest son, Holden, will be in 4th grade and our younger son, Nolan, will begin 2nd grade this year. Outside of school, I enjoy doing any of the following: spending time with my family, watching sports (especially baseball and NFL football), writing via blog, academic research or other publication means, reading books/articles about philosophy, meditation, mobile tech trends, and numerous other topics, creating new sounds or music as an audio engineer, working with my tools in the garage to make/fix things around my house, making my lawn look pristine with my trusty weed trimmer, and finding new unique ways to create efficiency, progress, and peace for my life, as well as for others I might have the fortunate opportunity to interact with.
I will continue teaching Video Production 1, Video Production 2, and Broadcast Production with both 7th and 8th students at Rogers. One of the main responsibilities for my 8th Grade students enrolled in Broadcast Production and Video Production 2 is producing the daily campus announcements, better known as EagleCast, for the entire Rogers campus. I look forward to seeing the awesome media students will produce to keep our campus better informed and to fulfill endless aspects of personal expression through creativity. Let's make 2018-2019 our best year!
