Below you will find a quick overview of the PISD School Attendance policies, but it is highly recommended that parents review the Student Handbooks for your child's campus located on the PISD website to become familiar with the Attendance policy.

1. What do I do if my child is absent for any portion of the school day?

Parents shall notify the campus of a student’s absence through Skyward Family Access within 3 school days of the absence. All absence notifications and notes will be submitted electronically. Instructions on submitting an absence in Skyward can be found below. The attendance clerk/registrar will be notified when an absence request is submitted.

2. How many parent notes may be used to excuse an absence?

Prosper ISD allows a maximum of four (4) parent notes per student per semester to excuse an absence. Unused parent notes from one semester do not carry over to the next semester. The limit of four (4) parent notes resets at the beginning of each new semester.
All parent notes are to be submitted through Skyward Family Access and must be submitted within 3 school days of the absence.
Once the maximum of 4 parent notes per semester has been met, absences will be considered unexcused, unless the absence qualifies as an exemption under compulsory attendance laws.

3. How do I submit a doctor’s note or other supporting documentation for an absence?

Doctor’s notes or other supporting documentation of an absence shall be sent to the campus attendance email address. Documentation is to be provided to the campus in the case of both full day or partial day absences. The specific email addresses for your child’s campus can be found below. The parent notification from Skyward that the student was at the doctor does not qualify as a doctor's note.

4. What do I submit to the campus if my student is absent for more than 3 consecutive days due to illness?

A parent note will not be accepted for a child that is absent for more than 3 consecutive days due to illness. A student who is absent for more than 3 consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the absence. Otherwise, the absence may be considered unexcused and in violation of compulsory attendance laws. Documentation is to be provided to the campus within 3 school days of the student’s return to school.
