Susan Joyce Englert Hall was born on July 29, 1949 in Ballinger, TX to Andrew and Matilda “Tillie” Englert. She is the oldest of 5 children. The Englert family has been engaged in farming in the Norton, Wilmeth, and Winters communities for generations. 

Joyce has one son, Thomas, who was born and raised in Prosper. He attended Prosper ISD from Pre-K through graduation. Both Thomas and his wife, Courtney, are educators. 

A 1967 graduate of Winters High School, Joyce began her work in education as an aide in the summer Head Start program. At Angelo State University, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1971, Language Learning Disabilities certificate and Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1979. In 1990 she continued post graduate work in Curriculum and Instruction at Texas Woman’s University.

She taught regular and special education classes for 14 years in Ysleta, Southwest, Wall, and Menard ISD’s before being employed in 1985 as Prosper ISD’s first full-time counselor for grades K-12, which totaled about 350 students. 

In 1991, she became the district’s first Director of Curriculum and Instruction, which also included the areas of technology, federal programs, counseling, special programs, and staff development. After retirement in 2009, Joyce worked in the business office for two years. She is a member of the Frisco Area Retired School Personnel group and participates in various donation projects at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. 

She is humbled to be able to share this honor of the school name with each and every person she had the privilege of working with and is committed to supporting the efforts of the students, administration, and staff.
