Jim and Betty Hughes

Jim and Betty Hughes have great history in both Collin County and the town of Prosper. Both Jim (Class of '51 Valedictorian) and Betty (Class of '56) attended 1st through 12th grade in Prosper and graduated from Prosper High School.

Mrs. Hughes was a lifelong educator working 30 years at districts in the North Dallas area after graduating from North Texas State University (now UNT) with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree.

Mr. Hughes also attended North Texas State University before transferring to Sam Houston State on a basketball and baseball scholarship. This is where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He served in the Army from 1957-1959 and returned to play professional baseball. Later, Mr. Hughes became a scout for the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays. He spent 48 years in the sport he loved before retiring in 2002.

The Hughes' were active member of the Prosper Historical Society and lead the group in creating a museum in the PISD School Board Room. Together they worked with city and community leaders on preserving houses, buildings and other sites in Prosper.
