Honoring those who have served!

This spring the Prosper Rotary Club sponsored the Veterans Memorial Art Contest. The contest was created to help bring attention to the club’s fundraising campaign for Prosper’s Veterans Memorial Monument.

The three-foot high, six point star base monument will be built in Frontier Park with a cost of construction and associated improvements in the ballpark of $450,000.

The Veterans Memorial Art Contest offered Prosper ISD students in grades K - 12 the opportunity to submit for judging their own art work including painting, sketches, drawing, 2-D objects, 3-D objects, or digital creations. The art must have had a theme of “Honoring our local community members who have served our country.”

The winners of the competition were:

  • Best in Primary School:
    • Shrujana Jagan, 3rd grade
  • Best in Secondary School:
    • Savannah Thornton, 6th grade
  • Honorable Mention:
    • Charlotte Shi, 3rd grade
    • Avery Whatley, 2nd grade
    • Milena Cudzich, 6th grade
    • Alyssa Valencia, 8th grade
  • Best Overall:
    • Isaac Acevedo, 8th grade

Prosper ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Holly Ferguson expressed “I am so proud of all of our students who participated for sharing their talents. We are blessed to have thousands of talented students in Prosper ISD. This contest is just one of the most recent examples of the excellence our students are producing in the classroom and beyond.”. Click here for a special message from Dr. Ferguson and to see the beautiful art created by these wonderful students.

The Prosper Rotary Club continues to raise funds for the Memorial in a variety of ways:

  • Residents and businesses can participate in the flag lease program paying $60 per year to have the rotary club place a 3’x5’ American flag in your front yard on the five patriotic holidays during the year.  This program also goes to fund Prosper ISD graduate scholarships.
  • Personalized bricks can be purchased that will have the name of military service people and veterans along with military rank, awards, acknowledgements, and recognitions.

Donate directly to the monument.
