Homecoming parades have always been about bringing people together. What started in the early 1900s as a way for colleges to welcome alumni back with a football game grew into something bigger. Soon after, towns were lining the streets to watch a parade of bands marching and floats rolling by to spark excitement and school pride. Over the years, the tradition spread across the country, becoming a significant way for schools and communities to show their pride and celebrate their traditions.
Prosper ISD joined that legacy in 1994, when the first Prosper Homecoming Parade drew families, alumni and neighbors together to support student clubs, organizations and teams in the community. While students had always celebrated Homecoming through other activities and traditions, the addition of a parade gave the town a signature event to rally around. It quickly became the district’s marquee fall tradition – a reflection of the pride and energy that define Prosper.
The tradition is so meaningful that families often set up their chairs along the parade route on Coleman Street days in advance, securing their favorite spot to experience the excitement.
As the district has expanded, Prosper ISD’s original parade paved the way for new high schools to begin their own Homecoming traditions. Yet the Prosper High School parade remains a staple, a reminder of the district’s rich history and a reflection of its commitment to community partnership, student leadership and preparing all students to succeed. | | | Campus Tours begin in October.
