Floral Design

Prosper High School Floral Design students Maylee Allen and Kelsey Bleak brought their creativity to life this month, crafting seasonal floral centerpieces for the first Lunch with Our Leader event of the year, where Walnut Grove and Richland feeder pattern school counselors connected with Dr. Ferguson to discuss how to continue to impact our students in a positive way.

As part of Prosper ISD’s floral design program, Maylee, a third-year Practicum Floral Design student, and Kelsey, a second-year Advanced Floral Design student, managed the entire project from start to finish. With just one week to design, budget, gather supplies and assemble ten arrangements for the lunch, the duo quickly learned that flexibility is key in both floral design and life in general.

“Originally, the arrangement looked nothing like this,” they shared. “Most of what we originally planned was way out of budget, so we had to pivot, but it turned out in the end.”

Their final arrangements featured rich, moody tones with deep purple carnations, pink and orange spider mums, yellow waxflower, and lush greenery—perfect for a fall setting.

For Kelsey, the floral design classroom has become more than just a workspace. “My first year, I didn’t really know anybody, and Ms. Owens made it such a safe space,” she said. “Over time, I grew a love for flowers and for creating designs,” she said.

Both students agreed that the experience gave them a deeper appreciation for the artistry and problem-solving that come with floral design, as well as the chance to share their skills and creativity with others.

“My favorite part is definitely the community,” Maylee said. “[I also like] taking something as simple as a flower and turning it into a big, beautiful arrangement.”

Under the guidance of Ms. Madison Owens, the two have created arrangements for various events, from teachers’ bridal bouquets to district celebrations, including all four Dedication Ceremonies. With every project, they continue to show how Prosper ISD champions students to discover new passions, embrace creativity, and make a meaningful impact within their community.
