The Prosper ISD Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Bill McLaughlin, current Deputy Superintendent, as Acting Superintendent of Schools. Mr. McLaughlin will serve in this capacity while the Board conducts a comprehensive search for a permanent superintendent after the retirement of Dr. Holly Ferguson, who served as Superintendent for 6 of her 23 years in Prosper ISD.
"We are so pleased that Mr. McLaughlin has agreed to serve as Acting Superintendent while we continue our search," said Board President Kelly Cavender. "Dr. Ferguson's legacy includes a talented leadership team across Prosper ISD, and we are grateful that Mr. McLaughlin brings the experience and dedication needed to ensure a seamless transition for our students, staff, and community. We have full confidence in his ability to maintain the excellence our families and staff have come to expect."
Mr. McLaughlin brings 33 years of experience in public education and four years of dedicated service to Prosper ISD. During his time in the district, he has served as Executive Director of Human Resources, Chief of School Leadership and Innovation, and most recently as Deputy Superintendent, where he has played an integral part in the district's daily operations, strategic planning, and fiscal stewardship — including leading critical initiatives related to attendance boundaries, facility planning, and budget management.
Before joining Prosper ISD, Mr. McLaughlin built a distinguished career in education, serving as an executive director, high school principal, middle school principal, assistant principal, teacher, and coach. His leadership has been recognized at the regional level, as he was named Region 10 Principal of the Year.
"I am honored by the trust the Board of Trustees has placed in me," said McLaughlin. "Prosper ISD is a remarkable district with dedicated educators, engaged families, and exceptional students. I look forward to ensuring continuity and stability as we move through this transition together."
The Board of Trustees will share additional details regarding the timeline and process for the permanent superintendent search in the coming weeks. The Board is committed to a thorough, transparent, and community-engaged process to identify the next leader of Prosper ISD.
Prosper ISD currently serves nearly 35,000 students across 31 campuses and remains one of the highest-rated and fastest-growing school districts in Texas.
