Thursday, July 23, 2026 Cockrell Champion Families...Happy July!
Welcome to Cockrell for the 26/27 school year! We are so excited to see you all so very soon. We hope everyone is enjoying some sun (and heat!) and family time...filled with late nights and later mornings! We hope everyone is staying safe and cool and that our Champions are getting excited about a wonderful school year ahead of them!
If I have not met you yet, I am Natalie Gasmire, and I am the principal here at Cockrell! I am starting my 6th year as principal at Cockrell and in PISD! I am beyond honored to serve in this capacity, and I absolutely love all of our children, families, and wonderful teachers and staff! Together, we will support our kiddos as they develop in their very formative years of elementary. Our goal is to provide an environment where children come to Cockrell knowing they are loved and cared for, and an educational experience that meets them exactly where they are in their growth journey!
You will receive this campus newsletter, Gasmire's Good News, every week on Thursdays. Please read all the information below and take action as necessary please! :)
We would love for you to follow us on Facebook if you have not already. You can find our page at @PISDCockrellElem. Look for the correct Facebook page that has our logo as the main profile picture. This will provide a glimpse into Cockrell for you as we move through the year!
Upcoming Dates: - Friday, August 7th: Meet the Teacher Night 5:00-6:30 pm (K-5) 4:00-4:45 for ALC & Comms
- Tuesday, August 11th: First Day of School for 2026-2027 School Year!
Remember, excellence is not an act, but a habit. Together, we write the stories of Champions!
We are here for you!
Thank you, Ms. Gasmire Principal |

Tuesday, August 11th is the 1st Day of School for the 26/27 School Year! On this day, parents may park and walk children to classrooms inside of the building. This is the only day that parents may walk into the building and to the classrooms with our students. Beginning August 12th, students will walk themselves to class with the help of all of the adults positioned inside and outside of our building.
As always, please park in a parking spot in the front or side parking lots. Do not park in the arrival lines in the front and back of the school.
If choosing to walk your child to class, parents will need to drop off at the classroom quickly and then exit the building no later than 7:45 am. |
|
|
Student last names A-L will be dropped off and picked up in the front car line. Student last names M-Z will be dropped off and picked up in the back car line. All walkers will exit out of the side doors of the building by the gym. Buses will exit from the side of the school by the gym. |

School Supplies can be dropped off at Meet the Teacher on August 7th. If you previously ordered a supply pack for your child, it will be delivered to your child's classroom for Meet the Teacher Night. |

Meet the Teacher Night: August 7th! - Meet the Teacher is Friday, August 7th from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. *If your child is served in a Communications or Active Learning Classroom, our Meet the Teacher is 4:00-4:45 that evening.
This is a come-and-go event where your student can meet their teachers. Your child's teacher will also be seeking important information from you about how your child will go home on the first day of school and each day after. If you need to share information about your child or have further questions, please email their teacher and schedule a time to meet. Because our teachers will be working all day on Friday, August 7th, we will end Meet the Teacher promptly at 6:30 PM so they can get home to their families.

For families who have completed registration and have been verified, on the evening of Thursday, August 6th, we will release the names of homeroom teachers.
You can login to Skyward Family Access to view your child's teacher. If you don't see it immediately, please check back, as it can take time for the homeroom teacher’s name to appear.
