Folsom Families,
We are working hard at learning here at Folsom and also having a lot of fun! We wrapped up our first round of Folsom Friday Live assemblies with our grades 3-5 assembly today. We always enjoy celebrating our students - ask your child about what he/she is proud of themselves for now that are wrapping up the sixth week of school. We want each of our students to know that their hard work pays off! Read on for library updates, another Folsom club opportunity (with more to come!), the October guidance topic (bullying prevention), and reminders about other great upcoming events. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Together We Champion Even in the midst of our Friday afternoon power outage, our teachers and students were learning and working hard! In first grade, students were writing. Our teachers have been going to see each other teach writing and are spreading writing ideas throughout the building. Even our youngest students are already starting to produce great writing pieces. We are proud of our teachers for championing writing and of our students for being champion writers! |
Together We Cultivate In third grade, students were taking writing pieces all of the way through the writing process by editing and revising drafts in order to create final products. Here are students helping edit and revise each other's work and giving feedback for the final draft. The students have great ideas and we can cultivate connections and the sharing of these ideas through opportunities such as this! |
Together We Empower Our fifth graders were writing across content areas by doing comparative writing in social studies. Comparison is a higher order thinking skills. Students were using multiple sources to gather information that helped them compare New England colonies. They were then able to use a 'top hat' organizer to record similarities and differences and draw conclusions. |
Together We Prosper We help our students feel confident with their writing by sharing it at the end of ELAR workshop! Here is a first grade student sharing his writing. His peers were able to give him positive feedback about his work and he was able to practice reading his own writing out loud in front of an audience as well. We get so many great ideas for our own writing by listening to books and the writing of others. |
