Greetings Hughes Families!
What a fantastic second week at Hughes! Our students are settling into routines, building friendships, and showing us what it means to have a Hughes Heart. Our teachers and staff have worked hard to create a positive, engaging learning environment, and we are off to a wonderful start!

I would also like to take a moment to remind you as parents and gaurdians that as our children grow up in an increasingly digital world, it is important to remember that social media can pose significant risks for elementary aged students. As a parent myself, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate social media and technology with children. It was difficult when my own children were growing up, but the challenges facing our students today are even greater. Exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, online strangers, excessive screen time, and the pressure to compare themselves to others can negatively impact children’s safety, well-being, and development. We encourage families to closely monitor online activity, set age-appropriate boundaries, and have ongoing conversations about making safe, respectful, and responsible choices online. Stay safe Hughes!
And, as always, please take a moment to read this week’s safety message, it is the same as last week but we still need your help. Keeping our students and families safe is a shared responsibility, and we appreciate your partnership!

Item Drop Offs:
We have a drop off area in the front foyer of the school and there are baskets with each grade level marked. If you need to drop something off, you will fill out a ticket and place it with the item and our front office staff with take it to them.**Items MUST be dropped by 10:00 a.m., we will not accept anything after 10:00 a.m. unless it is a critical item.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders: IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ!
* Please have your car tag hanging from your rearview mirror, our callers move pretty fast through the carlines and it stops the flow of carline when you are just showing the tag. Please hang it the entire time you are in carline.
*Students walking home MUST use a designated crosswalk with a monitor. There is one in the back for art walkers and one in the front on Prestwick Hollow Dr. for gym walkers. Bikes MUST be walked until students get across the street.
* Make sure nothing is covering your car tag, like air fresheners or also window shades. We know it's hot, but this also makes it very unsafe for our staff.
* If you forget your car tag, you'll need to park and go to the front office with your photo ID to sign out your student. We know this can be inconvenient, but it's a critical safety measure for all our students.
*PLEASE be kind to our staff and teachers outside helping. IT IS HOT outside and they are working in that heat to make sure your children get home safely.

- August 29th: Handel's Ice Cream Spirit Night! 5:00-9:00 p.m. Mention Hughes! 30% of each purchase goes back to Hughes!!
- September 4th- No School for students/Professional Development day for Staff
- September 7th: Labor Day (NO School)
- September 9th: Lockdown Drill at Hughes during the school day around 9:00 a.m.. (Please speak with your children and remind them this is just a drill to practice and keep everyone safe)
- September 3rd-18th: PTO Fundraiser (More info to come soon!!)
