💖 Together We PROSPER! 💖 This week, our students kicked off the Kids Heart Challenge with an engaging schoolwide assembly focused on heart health and helping others. Students are learning healthy habits—like eating smart, moving more, getting enough sleep, being kind, and showing leadership—while supporting children with special hearts and families in our community. Through Kids Heart Challenge, we are making a meaningful difference together by promoting heart health, hope, and support for families everywhere.
Together We CHAMPION! Our kindergarten students have been growing their math skills in a sweet way! Using candy hearts, they practiced composing and decomposing numbers as they explored how numbers can be broken apart and put back together. Hands-on activities like this help our youngest learners build strong number sense while keeping learning engaging and fun. Together, we are cultivating curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning from the very beginning.
🌟Meet our Rising Stars of the Year! New to the profession, these 29 teachers represent the impact of strong mentorship and collaboration across each of our campuses. Their early success and growth as educators reflect a district dedicated to excellence and ensuring students are in great hands. We’re excited to see the difference they will continue to make for our students!
Students are in for a four-day weekend, with Friday, Feb. 13 set as a staff development day, and Monday, Feb. 16 is officially a school holiday—not a bad-weather makeup day.

🌧️ Weather Update 6: School Closure - Thursday, January 29, 2026
After carefully assessing current road conditions and reviewing weather forecasts, Prosper ISD will be closed on Thursday, January 29.
We have had dozens of facilities team members working every day to clear sidewalks, doorways, driveways, and parking lots across all campuses. However, the continued cold temperatures have simply not allowed the ice and snow to melt enough for safe passage.

After assessing current conditions and reviewing weather forecasts, Prosper ISD will be closed on Wednesday, January 28. While our facilities teams have worked throughout the day to clear sidewalks, doorways, driveways, and parking lots across all campuses, freezing temperatures overnight could refreeze what has melted today.

Even during a winter shutdown, the work continues behind the scenes! While schools and district offices are closed and we stay warm inside, our maintenance and custodial teams are braving the cold to care for our facilities. ❄️👏 It truly takes a village, and every staff member plays a vital role in creating safe, welcoming spaces for our students to learn and grow. We’re so grateful for this amazing team that shows excellence every day, in every way!

School will proceed as normal on Friday, Jan. 23. However, due to the potential for extreme weather beginning Friday evening, all after-school and weekend activities, fine arts, and athletic events and practices are canceled from Friday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 25.
We will continue monitoring conditions closely with local meteorologists and emergency management and will share updates as we evaluate our status for Monday.

Together We EMPOWER! Last week, our 2nd grade teachers had the opportunity to observe 3rd grade during their collaborative planning. They watched as the team analyzed an upcoming assessment and created a “Know/Show” chart to clarify what students are expected to know and be able to do, and how we can support them before introducing new learning. This is a great example of the strong Professional Learning Community at Smothermon, where teachers work together to ensure student success.
