Even during a winter shutdown, the work continues behind the scenes! While schools and district offices are closed and we stay warm inside, our maintenance and custodial teams are braving the cold to care for our facilities. ❄️👏 It truly takes a village, and every staff member plays a vital role in creating safe, welcoming spaces for our students to learn and grow. We’re so grateful for this amazing team that shows excellence every day, in every way!

Together We EMPOWER! Last week, our 2nd grade teachers had the opportunity to observe 3rd grade during their collaborative planning. They watched as the team analyzed an upcoming assessment and created a “Know/Show” chart to clarify what students are expected to know and be able to do, and how we can support them before introducing new learning. This is a great example of the strong Professional Learning Community at Smothermon, where teachers work together to ensure student success.
Our school is gearing up to save lives, help our hearts, AND our community through Kids Heart Challenge - a fun and impactful program for students and families!

Together We EMPOWER!
Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade teachers were immersed in engaging learning and modeling of Shared Reading today. Teachers collaborated in grade-level conversations and then modeled what Shared Reading can look like in the classroom. Students were highly engaged and loved the experience, while teachers participated in meaningful discourse about how to bring these practices into their own classrooms.

Our fifth graders rocked their rhythm challenge in music class! Students stayed on beat while saying words and then explored rhyming patterns together. They were super engaged and truly on point with their learning.
