A native of Sacramento, Calif., Wallace was a two-time All-Big 12 selection with his uncanny passing accuracy and elusive running style. The junior college transfer immediately made an impact in his first season in 2001, directing the Cyclones to a 7-5 record and a spot in the Independence Bowl with 2,044 passing yards and 475 rushing yards. Against Baylor that season, Wallace, who was the 2001 Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the year, broke the school mark for completion percentage in a game by connecting on 22-of-24 passes (91.7 pct.). Wallace’s senior year was one of the best in school history, as the Cyclones were ranked as high as No. 9 in the Associated Press poll and qualified for the Humanitarian Bowl with a 7-7 record. Wallace was the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy at midseason, providing incredible memories in a come-from-behind victory at Iowa and “The Run” vs. Texas Tech.
